We have an immediate opening for dedicated, dependable, hard-working, creative professionals to join our airline catering company—located at Houston InterContinental Airport.

Abby’s Aircraft Catering provides the best quality food products to high-end aviation and commercial airline customers, and we are looking for a dedicated Pastry chef.

Summary:

The Pastry Chef coordinates and supervises bakery food production activities for Abby’s Catering. The incumbent provides quality and service of bakery products S/he will maintain high sanitation, food safety, and security standards for bakery operations. The Pastry Chef is also responsible for meeting budgetary objectives for food, labor, and supply costs.

Essential functions:

  • Leadership, Management and Accountability
  • Comply with all Food Safety rules and regulations
  • Scheduling the team according to production volumes
  • Passionate about making beautiful baking products and pastries, which involves transforming raw ingredients into something beautiful, an array of delectable and warm treats
  • Creativity sets the pastry chef apart from the rest. Being creative confers the ability to produce new forms of pastries to the eating pleasure of clients.
  • The Pastry Chef coordinates and supervises bakery food production activities
  • She/he will maintain high standards of sanitation, safety, and security for bakery operations
  • Bakes cakes, pies, cookies, loaves of bread, and a variety of pastries
  • Decorates pastries such as icing cakes with cake piping skills and pastry presentation
  • Provides training and development for bakery team
  • Performs annual employee performance evaluations for bakery team
  • Responsible for ordering bakery products and ingredients
  • Accountable for maintaining proper inventories using first-in, first-out system
  • Supervises pastry team members daily workspace
  • Know of new developments and emerging pastry making ideas
  • Prepare baked foods, such as bread, alongside pastries and desserts
  • Research and develop recipes
  • Closely inspect the measure and quality of ingredients used for each preparation
  • Liaise with ingredient suppliers and choose carefully the components required for baking needs

Pastry Chef Job Description

Qualifications:

  • Four years of related experience in kitchen supervision of baking and pastry production and the training, hiring recommendations of staff, and intern evaluation
  • Instead of the experience requirement, additional related education, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis may be substituted
  • Certified Food Handler’s Permit as issued by the City of Houston Health Department or the ability to obtain within 14 days of employment
  • Must be able to foster teamwork; train, supervise and direct the work of staff and interns members
  • Knowledge of foodservice computer applications
  • Experience with catering, pastry, and baking operations
  • Certified Executive Pastry Chef (CEPC) by the ACF preferred
  • Excellent attention to detail with a focus on accuracy, being exact, and an eye for detail
  • Must be able to detect scents and discern flavors
  • Demonstrated strong business sense
  • Excellent creativity and organizational skills to cook precisely and efficiently with good presentation, keeping order and structure
  • Expert in culinary with demonstrated ability to cook, knowledge of the kitchen, possess knife and tasting skills, ability to recognize flavors and to judge the balance of seasonings
  • Sound decision making and agility skills to make multiple decisions quickly, efficiently, simultaneously, and at the last second
  • Ability to motivate staff to keep everyone working at a fast, efficient pace as a team, including the cooks, bussers, waiters, other staff, and management
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong multitasking ability to address staff issues while working on other elements of an event, meal, or project
  • Excellent verbal and written and communication skills
  • LIGHT – Exert up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally
  • Requires walking or standing up to eight hours per day
  • Other physical requirements of the job include manual dexterity and the ability to see, hear, reach, climb, and balance
